Cindy Sebek is the founder and president of The Gracious Gift Wines. A native Texan, she was raised in Kerrville, in the heart of the state’s magnificent Hill Country. She grew up in a household where faith, family and hard work were priorities.
Cindy often wears a necklace with a bright silver pendant that reads: “JOY.” If you were to meet her, you’d believe the necklace to be a description of her—her cheerful demeanor, her brilliant smile and her optimistic outlook. But it’s not that, and it’s not a necklace for Christmas—she wears it year-round and its meaning sums up what drives her.
The letters on the necklace, which was a gift from her grandmother, are an acronym for Jesus, Others, Yourself.
That’s how she orders her life. Because faith was a cornerstone of her upbringing, Cindy has always endeavored to help others. So when she recognized that there was a hunger epidemic in San Antonio, where she lives, she saw it as an opportunity to help those in need in her own community.
Cindy quickly learned that San Antonio was a microcosm of the entire United States—hunger was endemic.
She created The Gracious Gift Wines with a simple goal: feed America’s hungry. The idea for her one-for-one business model—which was created with social responsibility in mind—came about while she was pursuing her executive MBA.
One of her business classes focused on creating businesses with social value. After much prayerful thought, Cindy began to piece together an inspired plan to sell a product and use proceeds to feed the hungry. She wanted her product to be a sustainable item and also one that would be purchased over and over again. Her selection of wine proved to be ideal.
The Gracious Gift Wines stands out from other charitable businesses because, when you purchase a bottle of Cindy’s wine at your local grocer’s or package store, the proceeds stay in your community at your local food bank and feeds those in need right in your hometown. Cindy is proud that by purchasing from The Gracious Gift Wine, you receive double benefits: while you’re enjoying a bottle of delicious wine for around $15, you’re also feeding the hungry.
The Gracious Gift Wine is a perfect way to bring “JOY” into the lives of others.
Cindy Sebek attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in human development and family studies in 2001. She has spent most of her career in medical sales, thrice earning President’s Council trips for being in the top 10 percent in the company’s sales force. She helped create a women’s leadership forum in her company and serves on a sales advisory team.
In 2012, she and her brother enrolled in the executive MBA program at Texas Tech, and the two traveled from San Antonio to Lubbock one weekend a month for two years—they received their MBAs in August 2014.
When Cindy isn’t traveling for her sales job, she’s promoting The Gracious Gift Wine in her quest to alleviate hunger in America. She loves to garden, cook and, on occasion, craft. Cindy also delights in spending time with family and friends.
